SODIS Monitoring System
Code the micro:bit’s light sensor to detect the presence of sunlight. After 6 hours of light exposure, use the LEDs to let the community know the water is now safe to drink!
Big Idea
In this lesson, we’re going to learn about how Solar Water Disinfection (SODIS) can make access to clean drinking water a reality for people in communities that struggle with waterborne illnesses due to lack of clean drinking water.
We’ll also learn how SODIS can help lift people out of poverty to live healthy and productive lives!
Take Action!
In the ‘Take Action’ section of this lesson, we’ll use a micro:bit and a plastic bottle of water to create a Solar Water Disinfection system! Once assembled and programmed, you’ll be able to set up your SODIS system and test it out.
The goal of this project is to understand how a simple system like this can help increase access to clean drinking water, as well as how important clean drinking water is for communities around the world.
